FED: Consumers would abandon health cover if increases continue

SYDNEY, Feb 26 AAP - Consumers would abandon private health insurance schemes in drovesbecause of premium hikes, the Australian Consumers Association said today.

ACA senior health policy adviser Nicola Ballenden said the latest increase meant privatehealth insurance was becoming unaffordable for many people.

The federal government has approved premium increases averaging seven per cent forprivate health funds following a cabinet meeting in Melbourne yesterday.
