Vic; Basketball centre faces chop because of insurance woes
A Melbourne basketball stadium that's home to hundreds of teams is expected to closeits doors next week as the latest victim of the public liability insurance squeeze.
The Nunawading Basketball Centre has been operating for more than 30 years in Melbourne'seastern suburbs -- hosting 788 basketball and 60 netball teams.
But it can't find an insurer to supply it with public liability cover to protect itagainst injury claims.
Chief executive DENNIS O'BRIEN says the centre's chief insurer, AMP, has stopped writingpublic liability insurance, with the facility's cover ending on July 31.
The centre is currently operating with a two-week extension of its public liabilityinsurance, but unless a new insurer is found by next Wednesday the doors will close.
State Finance Minister JOHN LENDERS has promised the government will do all it canto solve the centre's problems.
